What Is Patriots Point?

Patriots Point is a Naval and Maritime Museum, home to:

  • The USS YORKTOWN CV10, a World War II aircraft carrier commissioned and built in 14 months, served in WWII, the Korean War, and Vietnam.
  • The USS LAFFEY DD-724, a WWII destroyer present at both Normandy and Okinawa where she was hit with six kamikazes and four-deck bombs and earned the name "The ship that would not die."
  • 2.5 acre Vietnam Experience with recreated brown water navy base, complete with PBR (Patrol Boat River), 105 mm howitzer, three helicopters, a Quonset hut with a touch screen kiosk and theater, and much more.
  • The Medal Of Honor Museum, currently housed on the USS Yorktown, makes Patriots Point truly one of our country's most prestigious and important historical destinations.

Where Is Patriots Point?

Located in Mount Pleasant on the Cooper River/Charleston Harbor at the mouth of the Atlantic Ocean, Patriots Point strives to preserve the living history of our nation's bravest men and women while telling their stories in honorable, educational and engaging ways. In addition to paid staff, 140 volunteers work seven days a week. Since opening in 1975, Patriots Point has become one of South Carolina's most popular tourist attractions, with more than 270,000 visitors each year.

In addition, Patriots Point has one of the largest education and overnight camping programs in the nation, with more than 40,000 school-age children attending annually.

Who Is The Patriots
Point Foundation?

Patriots Point Foundation, founded in 1976, is an all-volunteer 501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization.

We are Volunteers working to support and preserve!

We meet once a month to discuss and execute plans to raise and distribute funds. With expenses at absolute minimums, our historical pass-through has been over 95 percent. We have earned GuideStar's Gold Star rating for transparency.

Mission Of The Patriots Point Foundation

Our goal as a foundation is to provide support to the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum and associated property and to preserve the history and memory of all branches of the US Military.

Our all-volunteer board works to help bring awareness and respect to all who have served in the military.
